This drag has pushed Huawei into changing its business practices.
If you are interested in this up-to-date, detailed information, then... this is where to be. Alright, let's get right into it.
As we know, Huawei is one of the largest telecom companies in the world. Beginning of 2019, the Chinese company was expected to become the largest smartphone manufacturer by the end of that year, overtaking Samsung. However, Huawei was dealt with a bad card starting from the accusations of shady business practices over the years (the alleged use of its products to spy on other nations). This was a little bit believable and worrisome due to the close ties of the company with the Chinese government.
In May 2019, US President Donald Trump revealed that Huawei amongst other Chinese companies has been blacklisted which means they cannot do business with any organization that operates in the united states. This led to the "Huawei Ban". With Huawei unable to work with US-based organizations like Google, Qualcomm, and Intel amongst others. For Google, this means the newly released Huawei smartphone models are no longer able to ship with google owned applications pre-installed.
After the announcement of the ban, the company has had to completely overhaul how it creates and releases smartphones, and currently, the company is facing serious scrutiny from many other nations who rely on Huawei on wireless equipment.
The trade war in the US has a lot to do with politics, tariffs, intl laws, and intellectual property theft. International property theft is how Donald trump dragged Huawei into the trade war. It is a known fact that Potus has been combating China and its unfair trade practices and since Huawei has this "reputation" with IP theft it landed them in the middle of the war with the US president. The ban was issued on May 15, 2019, as an executive order banning all telecom equipment from foreign firms under the terms of National Security Risk. However, this ban didn't peg Huawei as its target until the Department of Commerce in the US created a list of companies that were to be blacklisted wherein Huawei was mentioned.
Meanwhile, the document in which these were released, there were no clear details of what the ban entailed for Huawei. It was assumed the ban was solely pointed in the direction of the Next-gen 5G tech launch smartphones. Nonetheless, it was all clarified when Google publicly declared their compliance with President Donald Trump's ban and interpreted the "language of the order" as cutting ties with Huawei which meant that all smartphones produced would no longer have access to the basics of Android smartphones which include Gmail, Youtube, Google Drive, and Google Play Store, though this order doesn't apply to phones launched before May 15, 2019.
After the announcement by Google, other companies rallied against Huawei~ Qualcomm, Intel, Arm, and Microsoft. Huawei tried to fight back with stern statements and legal actions against the executive order of which yielded no result and they had to accept their fate~ there have been no recent lawsuits filed. Currently, Google apps will continue to get updates on existing Huawei Smartphones while Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphones.
Following the US election's defeat of Donal Trump, one would think there's an ounce of hope lurking for Huawei come Biden 2021. However, articles from Biden's speech has proven otherwise. Apparently, he is likely to remain tough on the Chinese tech.
For the time being, all hope might totally not be lost as Huawei is seriously firing with the Harmony OS. Get details on this in our next post.
