iMessage Finally Finding it's Way to Android and Windows

A developer has recently announced that iMessage would be integrated into Android phones using Beeper.

Beeper is a new universal chat app that links 15 different chat platforms into a single interface. Th app is the work of a team that includes the CEO of Pebble Eric Migicovsky. He announced the launch on twitter. Beeper’s site notes that the project was previously known as NovaChat
Apples iMessage works only on Apples own device- iPhones, iPads and Macs. Using some tricks, Migicovsky claims, Beeper is able to have iMessage chats accessible on Android, Windows and Linux.

The websites FAQ reveals that an always-online Mac running the Beeper app is needed to use as a bridge. But things get really wild if you don’t have access to a Mac, at which point Beeper says it’ll literally send each of its users a “Jailbroken iPhone with the Beeper app installed” in order to act as a bridge. At this point we should probably mention that using Beeper involves paying a $10 a month subscription, which may or may not include the cost of the iPhone~ Sounds like a lot of work to me.

The app is built on the open-source Matrix messaging protocol. While the clear short-term objective is to make it easier to chat across different services, Migicovsky has discussed the prospect of all users gradually transitioning to the open-source Matrix itself to chat, rather than simply using it as a bridge between services.
